about
The composer of this song, Eduardo Mateo, is often referred to as the heart of Uruguayan music. He was never really appreciated while he was alive, because he was way ahead of his time. Perhaps his time is now. He died relatively young and unknown, but now he is becoming legendary in Uruguay and Argentina. Mariana and Mateo were both mainstays of the music scene during the 12 year dictatorship there that all but strangled the culture there. She played on many recordings with him and at many live shows as well.
This delightful song shows his wonderful sense of humor and innocence.
lyrics
The Tunguele, Tunguele Coco
Coco because, little by little
whoever doesn't dance the Tunguele coco
little by little goes crazy
the Tunguele
The Tunguele, Tunguele Coco
all the black say
that the one that doesn't dance
the Tunguele coco
little by little goes crazy.
